Music that moves my soul

music-soul-love-quotes-quote-cute-Favim.com-554062Music is a form of art that most people appreciate, and can easily relate to. We’ve all experienced the powerful effect that a song can have on us when we allow it to penetrate our lives.

I crave the stirring that is caused inside my soul when I listen to music that is written with “creative genius” inspiration.  I can feel my mind become quiet,  as my thoughts drift inward.  I feel closer to God, and my heart begins to cry out in worship.  It is at this time, when my artistic abilities flow and I am best able to create.  I am focused and I feel inspired.  However, I have come to realize that the quest to find this music is never ending.

I shared a youtube video a while ago of a talk given by the author of Eat, Pray, Love.  She describes what it is like for many artists (visual and performing artists alike) when inspiration hits. If you haven’t yet watched the video, I highly recommend that you do.  It’s very inspirational.  This is the kind of “creative genius” inspiration that I am talking about.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Are there certain songs in your life that speak to your soul every time you hear them?

What are these songs? I’m dying to know what they are.

I’d love to listen to them and add them to my playlist.

Psalm 19:1-4

"Heavens declare"This is one of my favorite Bible verses.  I am especially in awe over the last section.  God’s creation proclaims His glory to the ends of the earth.  Let’s replace the word creation with artwork, and we learn that God’s artwork, transcends all languages so that ALL can hear it’s message!  A piece of art can speak to the heart of a person from any tribe or nation.  Art knows NO language barrier.

A New Blog = A New Friend

The other night I was looking around Pintrest and I kept coming across pins from Visual Blessings.

Valerie Sjodin profile pic., Heidi Helser PhotographyAfter browsing through the blog I was happy to have come across it.  Valerie Sjodin is an artist with a vision for art that is after my own heart.

I have been reflecting on art as a way to worship and pray for quite some time.  It’s a concept that has been rolling around my head, just kind of brewing.

When mentioning my thoughts to other people, I have found that it is an idea that many do not relate to.  So needless to say the conversations I’ve had on the topic have been few, leaving the idea to just set and brew awhile longer.  I am excited to meet another artist who is exploring art in relationship to spirituality and I look  forward to getting to know her better through her blog.
